Welcome to Brightwell

"Learning together and growing together"

Friendship - Respect - Tolerance

On behalf of our entire school team, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Brightwell cum Sotwell C of E Primary School, a community that thrives on supporting its children to learn together and grow together successfully through the core values of friendship, respect and tolerance.

We are a one form entry primary school with 180 children situated in a designated area of outstanding natural beauty in the community-minded village of Brightwell cum Sotwell. The village is adjacent to the towns of Wallingford and Didcot, with Oxford located just 13 miles north and Reading 12 miles south of the school.  The catchment area includes Brightwell cum Sotwell but the school also admits pupils from Wallingford and the surrounding area. We form part of the Wallingford Partnership of Schools with the majority of our pupils moving on to Wallingford Secondary School when they finish Year 6.

We have a talented and dedicated staff team who pride themselves on educating the ‘whole child’ and developing the individual interests of children so that every member of our community feels valued, supported and celebrated for their unique contributions. To achieve this, we offer an ambitious and creative curriculum which is enriched by a range of extra-curricular activities and educational experiences, including inviting our families and other visitors, local or otherwise, into the school. We are also supported by our hard-working FOBS team who organise a variety of fabulous social events for children and families throughout the year, raising valuable funds for projects within the school.

The school is seen as an important part of the village community. In particular, our close links with St. Agatha’s Church help shape our Christian identity and we enjoy making regular contributions to the major church festivals throughout the year - you can find out more about these links on our pages dedicated to 'Church School Life' and 'St Agatha's and St James' Churches'.

In September 2017, we became an academy working within the Merchant Taylors' Oxfordshire Academy Trust alongside Wallingford School. The move towards academy status and our relationship with Wallingford School has drawn the staff, governors, families and members of the wider community together with a real sense of purpose, and what a community it is - but don't just take our word for it, come and see for yourself and we'll be happy to show you round.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes,

Sue Potts
