Music at brightwell

Our aim is that the children all have fun and become happy, competent music makers throughout their time at Brightwell.

We hope to achieve this through the children having regular music lessons throughout the year.

As well as their music lessons, the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children also perform a Christmas play in December and the Key Stage 2 children share an end of year performance.

Year 2 children learn to play the recorder whilst children in year 3 and 4 learn to play the violin or cello and in year 5 and 6 some children have opted to play the violin.  Tutors from the Oxfordshire Music service lead these sessions once a week. Children across all years have access to iRock lessons and children in years 2 through to 6 have the opportunity to learn to play the piano.

A lunchtime choir is run by volunteers parents and KS2 children have taken part in the National Young Voices in recent years.

Children in KS1 and KS2 take part in weekly singing assemblies as part of our Collective Worship programme and share these songs with parents in end of term gatherings at Church and Achievement assemblies.

We use resources from Out of The Ark, Worship Workshop and Charanga to support children in their learning.

Please see our current Curriculum Jigsaws on the class pages for further details of what the children are learning this term.
